    Affiliate Marketing on Your Blog

    Category: Blogging Professionaly

Would you like to find out how to make money with a blog? Affiliate blogging is one way! Deciding which companies to represent as an affiliate is like deciding how to decorate your home. The style of your home portrays your image; it might show your southern roots, modern lifestyle, or old-fashioned taste. Similarly, your blog represents you, your company, and/or the things you love.

Here are three tips for successful affiliate blogging:

Keep it simple. If you walk into a house that is cluttered, I doubt you'll notice the new lovely Ethan Allen couch in the living room. All you will see is a mess. Likewise, if you have ads all over your blog, your readers will be turned by the mess. It will be too overwhelming.

Only represent things you love. Would you display an ugly green chair the color of puke in your house? Maybe if you couldn't afford anything else, but your friends would probably question your taste! Keep this in mind when promoting products on your blog. Only promote products you know and trust. Advertising products on your blog is like putting your stamp of approval on that product.

Evaluate the products open and honestly. Inform readers of both the strengths and weaknesses of each product. Think of it like dating. If you put on a front with your dates, your dates will be upset when they find out who you really are. Likewise, if you aren't upfront about all aspects of a product, you risk losing your readers trust. People will appreciate it if you set realistic expectations. Let them know who the product is suited for and who it isn't. People will buy the product regardless of its limitations as long as it meets their specific need.

What would you tell someone who wants to start affiliate marketing on their blog? What approaches were successful for you and which were total failures? Share your personal experiences below.
